CICL 2008 – Inaugural Conference
University of Turku, Finland (17-18 May 2008)
CICL 2008 – 17-18 July 2008 in Turku, Finland (University of Turku)
The University of Turku Faculty of Law, University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, Michigan State University College of Law, Drake University Law School and IPR University Center jointly hosted a trans-Atlantic conference on innovation and communications law. For two days, IP and communications law scholars from 10 countries across the globe came together to present and discuss their research on contemporary legal issues.
The conference scrutinized national and international market regulation and asked to what extent existing laws are equipped to handle shifts in structures and new forms of mass-communication. Law and lawyers had an important role in affecting the viability of innovation and communication models, the democratic potential of technologies and related social developments. The conference focused on how the law can develop to solve problems that arise when traditional laws encounter changed technology or new behavior on the part of the citizenry; be it private or entrepreneurial.
